Ecuadorian and Exotic Orchids: A Jewel In The Southern Ecuadorian Andes

Some years ago I had the chance to visit this place for the first time. It was with three swiss people, and was back then an unknown activity for a couple hours near Cuenca. I returned this month and was positively surprised that the place is still growing and more beautiful than what I experienced four years ago. The exotic orchids and plants exhibit is well made, but the native orchids exhibition certainly is the new crown of the company. You find in one area an incredible diversity of colors, sizes, and shapes, a real delight for people that enjoy the beauty of the work of nature.

National Geographic About Ecuador: "The Cacao Trail" Attracts New Tourist

Ecuador experiences since 8 years ago a new boom regarding the old golden seed "Cacao", and the chocolate manufacture. Ecuador was during the mid 19th century the wordl's first exporter, due to its quality, aroma and flavor, but the exportations decreased by the beginning of the 20th century, due to plant desease that affected most coastal plantations, until a new genetic ingenieered plant emerged to sustent the industry. It was stronger, but not as flavored and smelly as the original Arriba Cacao. The exportations decreased and not until recently, our Cacao (together perhaps with the new coffee boom), is again in the news papers and magazines. Visiting a Cacao plantation either in the coast or in the jungle, has turned into a new tourist attraction. This month National Geographic's Online Site featured an article about this subject and recognizes the diversity of Ecuador as a travelling land, and Cacao related information to have an unforgettable experience in the country. Aguarongo Protected Forest: A Little Jewel Near Cuenca

This was an interesting discovery near Cuenca, less than an hour away. The place is a protected highland forest that supplies water for the comunities near by, right in between Cuenca and Chordeleg in a straight line. The forest station offers accommodation and three paths to walk around, depending on your interest, time and fitness level. It is a great observation point towards east and west, and perhaps one of the few pristine places near Cuenca to observe highland birds species.
