Mountain Climbing at Cayambe: If you happen to be a mountaneer...

The Andes can be as astonishing as many other mountain ranges in the world: they are an organized natural system of active and dormant volcanos. As a traveller said to me, "the people of a country makes you want to go there or not, since, at the end, all the mountains and landscapes look the same".

As an ex mountain climber and guide, I partially agree with that statement; if you have seen a nice landscape that has mountains anywere in the world, you have seen them all. But still, I must tell you, if you happen to be a mountaneer and want to climb Cayambe Volcano, located precisely at the southern side of the equator line, then you might be able to see from the Ruales-Oleas-Berge Hut something like the images above or below:

Yes, breath taking even for mountaneers that have seen these landscapes many times. So, if you are looking for a big challenge and adventure, and wish to experience climbing a volcano higher than 5000 meters above sea level, or if you want a shorter adventure, only doing some high altitude hiking, to spend the day near the refuge, then this place could be ideal for you.
